Why we look at them
Heavy industry was often built where heavy power could be had. When a mill or a plant closes, the building and the land are still there, and sometimes so is the connection. That doesn't make every site a fit, and it doesn't tell us what is left of the connection, so we look at each one on its own.
What counts as a former industrial site
Paper and pulp mills, sawmills, factories, processing plants, large warehouses and depots, and the empty land beside them. Part of a site can still be in use. Tell us what runs there and what doesn't.
What we look at
The connection comes first. We start from what the grid operator says about it today, and when it said it. A connection that served a plant for decades isn't automatically held in the same form now, and the operator's records decide that, not the building. Why that is, and how operators keep those records, is in powered land in the Nordics.
Then the zoning plan: where the site sits in the municipality's plan and what the plan allows. When something has to change, we work with the municipality.
Then the site itself: the buildings that stand on it, what the ground carries from earlier use, and the permits a new building would need. Our teams handle that paperwork with the authorities.
Other ways in
If the question on your site is the line rather than the building, see land with a grid connection. If the land belongs to a local authority, see municipal and industrial park land. If you act for the owner, there's a page for brokers and advisors.
Questions we get
Does the building have to be standing?
No. We look at land and buildings, so a cleared site is as welcome as a standing mill.
Does the site need a live connection?
No. We look at sites that are connected to the grid, and at sites close to a connection.
The plant only closed recently. Is that a problem?
Tell us when it closed and what you know since.
Part of the site is still in use. Is that a problem?
Say what runs there and what doesn't, and we'll take it from there.
